Sweden’s curvy mannequins

A Swedish store is being praised for using fuller figured mannequins to show off their clothing. They are not obese and they are not unhealthy (pictured below amongst the smaller mannequins which are used internationally). These progressive and positive mannequins are commercially relatable for numerous customers however my concern is the notion that these are ‘real women’s bodies’ – are thinner people not real women too! Although this could be a step in the right direction for promoting different healthy bodies.

Smooth Tailoring

With the tailoring project and my second year studying fashion design at uni just around the corner, I have had the excuse to get up close and personal with some gorgeous jackets. My favourite designer at the moment is Zoe Jordan and I’m completely in love with her silky smooth snake-skin Jacquard jackets. The slightly cropped cut of the jacket below and slight gathering of excess fabric below the yoke gives a gorgeous silhouette to dress up or down. From the delicately sculpted shoulders adding a softly tailored form to the simplicity of the neckline and front fastenings this is my dream jacket and has really inspired me to focus on subtle detailing and a pure, smooth fabric for my designs. Also by Zoe Jordan, this virgin wool cropped jacket is gorgeously minimalist and the cut is just perfect. Simplicity is key with this jacket both front and back in this jacket. I love the collarless look (and have no idea technically how they have made this look so flawless – I will investigate!). The contrasting detail add another dimension to the design whilst staying simple and pure.

As temperatures drop….

As I looked out the window of the train home from drizzly London last night, I was shocked to see a dark sky and even more shocked that by the time I arrived at my destination I was shiverring. Inspired by the weather and my will to over prepare, here are my early Autumn essentials.

1. Knitwear! Too early for a coat, too late for a solo tee I’m seeking comfort from a chunky knit.
Chunky knit by Schumacher, Harrods,  £399.

2. A UK essential, the trusty brolly!
Burberry fox handle umbrella, £495.

3. The loafer – a huge shoe style at the moment. It’s durable in spanning the current trends but most importantly it comes in a plethora of colours and designs so you will definately find a pair to suit you. Bonus points for being flat! – no excuse      for not wearing them everyday!
